Orientation and Mobility
| Visual Impairment
Reach Across Texas is a State of Texas Legislative
line item on the Texas School for the Blind’s budget
and takes over for the Visual Impairment Preparation Program.
The program is funded for the purpose of bringing education
to both teachers and students who would not otherwise have
access to specialized training. Most of the courses required
for Visual Impairment and Orientation and Mobility certification
are now available over the internet with more in development.
Some classes require on campus attendance.
EDSP 5383 requires one specified weekend of on-campus attendance.
EDSP 5384 requires one specified Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
of attendance. EDSP 5386 & 5387 require on-campus attendance
for Summer I semster.
Scholarships for partial tuition
and fees for certification are available to the qualifying
student. A Reach Across Texas Application
must be on file and approved before the Stipend Acceptance
Letter can be mailed to the student for signature. The
Stipend Acceptance Letter must be returned to the Sowell Center
before tuition or fees request can be processed. Failure to
return the letter could result in a delay or cancellation
of the tuition and fee stipend. The student could then be
responsible for these incurred expenses at Texas Tech University.
Students who drop classes after the 100% refund date will
be responsible for the full tuition of the course.
