What is a podcast?

The word "podcast" is a combination of two words: iPod and broadcasting.

Podcasts are recorded audio files people can listen to on their computer, or have automatically downloaded to their portable music player (like an iPod) so they can time and place shift: listening to the audio content anywhere, at any time they choose. The subscription model, using an RSS or Atom feed, makes podcasting different from other methods of online media distribution.

We are currently using podcasts to share interviews with faculty members about their current research with a global audience, as well as recorded presentations made at our College of Education building in Lubbock, Texas.

How can I learn more about podcasting?

If you are a Texas Tech student, faculty or staff member, the ATLC will soon be offering shortcourses on podcasting.

Whether or not you have a formal affiliation with TTU, you can check out the Podcasting101 online curriculum for links, tutorials, tips and forums. (Click LOGIN AS GUEST if you don't want to register.)

More information about podcasting is also available from WikiPedia.
