TExES Exam Information:

You are eligible to take these exams once you are admitted into a Teacher Education Program.  However, we recommend you take them the semester before student teaching.  In order to register for the TExES/ExCET/TOPT exams, you must register with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) using your TEA identity number. (Go to www.sbec.state.tx.us if you need to obtain this number.)  See www.educ.ttu.edu/certification and click on TExES/ExCET/TOPT for more information including a PowerPoint presentation that walks you through this process. You will only be approved for exams in the specific program into which you are admitted.  Any other exams should be added AFTER you are certified.  Exams are currently $120 each. The exam you must take is listed on your degree/certification plan.   For further information on testing, you may use the following link:

SBEC (Applying for a teaching certificate):

After you have graduated and passed all required TExES or ExCET exams, you must initiate the recommendation process by applying for your certificate through SBEC.

This is an online process that must be completed in order for us to send your recommendation to the state.  Current fees are $77 (fees subject to change) for the application and $47 for the fingerprinting process. To access the SBEC website, go to http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/  and click on the APPLY FOR MY CERTIFICATION option.

TaskStream:

All students currently enrolled in education courses will use TaskStream in their education courses to create lesson plans and portfolios.  TaskStream is a web-based instructional design resource to which you must subscribe.  TaskStream offers an interactive desktop featuring an intuitive suite of tools for creating, organizing, tracking, and sharing standards-based lessons, units, electronic portfolios, and web pages. TaskStream’s robust collaboration tools make it easy to share these products with instructors, mentors, administrators, colleagues, and peers for feedback or evaluation. K12 educators, education students, credential candidates, instructors, and administrators all use these tools to support their own progress. You must subscribe to TaskStream and take online a TaskStream workshop during your first semester of classes.

Student Teaching/Internships:

If you plan on student teaching or obtaining an internship, there are certain things you must do to make sure you receive a student teaching placement. You must attend a student teaching application meeting the semester before student teaching (or see Ms. Sparks individually) and apply for student teaching the semester before you student teach. If you have questions, please email Natalie Sparks at natalie.sparks@ttu.edu.  To be eligible to student teach you must: 1) complete all other course work 2) have the required GPA of 2.5 or 2.7 for your program area overall and in your subject area and 3)take the TExES content area exam. You will receive a student teaching check letter or email notifying you of any courses lacking from your certification plan. In order to receive a student teaching placement, you must attend an informational meeting and complete the online application. Note:  Students who are interested in teaching outside of the Lubbock area must meet with Natalie Sparks to obtain a Long Distance Student Teaching Request Form. If you want an internship, sign up for Student Teaching first, then visit with Jana Packard at jana.packard@ttu.edu about obtaining an internship.  You must pass the content area TExES exam to qualify for a TTU internship.
