The College of Education houses 11 graduate programs between the two departments that prepare both applied and basic researchers who possess the skills to work with diverse populations.

ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR GRADUATE EDUCATION AND RESEARCH  Open Rank
Texas Tech University seeks applicants and nominations for an open rank position for Associate Dean of Graduate Education and Research with specialization in one of the programmatic emphases of the College.

SPECIAL EDUCATION   Endowed Full Professorship
Unique opportunity for a leader in autism to join the already established endowed Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research, working with a team to raise the Center to the next level of prominence.  Please see our web site at http://www.educ.ttu.edu/edsp/burkhartproject.
Qualifications:    Established national record of scholarship/research, successful grant funding, leadership, and dedication to teaching in the area of autism spectrum disorders.  Experience working with K-12 educators; earned doctorate in Special Education with a focus in autism spectrum disorders and/or related developmental disabilities; and an established record of extramural funding. 
Responsibilities:  This position requires the applicant to identify potential funding sources, develop proposal ideas, write grants, coordinate grant management, and further build the extramural funding infrastructure to enhance the funding/research base for the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research.  Other key responsibilities of this position include establishing ongoing relationships with external funding agencies; forming collaborative research groups across disciplines within the TTU System, as well as with school systems and community agencies; and organizing national research colloquia and symposia.
This individual will provide research leadership to the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research Teaching; serve on masters/doctoral committees; and teach in the autism spectrum disorders program. Preferred areas of academic focus:  behavioral and communication issues of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, transition for individuals with autism spectrum disorders, parent and family education concerning autism spectrum disorders; and/or professional development for teachers, as well as other issues concerning autism spectrum disorders.

The successful candidate must have:  (1) a doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction or Educational Psychology; (2) an active or potentially active research and publication agenda; (3) a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and service; (4) a commitment to collaborative activities within the College of Education, TTU, the K-16 community, and the surrounding community; (5) enthusiasm and ability to use technology for instruction, including distance education; (6) a commitment to student recruitment and advising; (7) a commitment to promoting equity and excellence in education; and (8) qualifications as listed for the position.

Required Qualifications:  In addition to the College of Education qualifications listed above:  (1) Doctorate or far-advanced ABD in Curriculum & Instruction or related field (e.g., Educational Psychology, Adolescent Development), (2) teaching experience in a secondary-school setting, (3) a potentially active research and publication agenda; (3) expertise in the area of learning, instruction and adolescent development; (4) expertise in teaching with technology and with distance learning.

Preferred Qualifications:  (1) experience teaching in an educator preparation program on the university level; (2) experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse students, their families and communities; (3) interest in education policy related to secondary school reform.

Responsibilities will include:  (1) establishing a program of research; (2) teaching courses in educator preparation programs at the undergraduate and graduate level; (3) working collaboratively with other faculty on distance learning projects; and (4) mentoring master’s and doctoral students.

Qualifications:  Successful candidates will have:  1) a doctorate in curriculum and instruction with a specialization in social studies education or a related field; 2) an active research and publication agenda in social studies education; 3) experience teaching K-12 public school students; 4) commitment to the integration of technology in teaching and learning, including the distance delivery of instruction, and; 5) commitment to serving diverse populations.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience in middle and/or secondary teaching, coursework, and with an established research agenda in social studies education.

Candidates for Assistant Professor should have completed a doctorate and exhibit potential for research and teaching while candidates for Associate Professor should have an established record of research and teaching.

Responsibilities:  Primary responsibilities will include:  1) teaching and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students; 2) providing leadership in teaching and developing social studies education courses for certification and graduate programs; 3) working collaboratively with K-12 partner schools in creating field-based experiences; 4) working with master’s and doctoral students in curriculum and instruction, and; 5) conducting and publishing research related to social studies education and/or teaching and learning.
