COE Strategic Goals and Objectives

Goal 1 - Access and Diversity: Recruit, retain and graduate a larger, more academically prepared and diverse student body.
Objective 1.1: Diversify the student body through increased access.
Objective 1.2: Compete for the best and brightest undergraduate and graduate students.
Objective 1.3: Improve retention and graduation rates.
Objective 1.4: Establish an enrollment management plan consistent with an institutional strategy.
Objective 1.5: Establish more/increase amount of scholarships and fellowships.
Goal 2 - Academic Excellence: Attain national recognition as a top public education and research university.
Objective 2.1: Strengthen undergraduate teacher education program.
Objective 2.2: Increase the number of teachers prepared for all levels, but focused on bilingual, English as a Second Language (ESL), languages other than English, math, science and special education.
Objective 2.3: Strengthen Graduate Programs.
Objective 2.4: Increase graduate enrollment in specialized areas.
Objective 2.5: Improve the level of external funding for the college.
Objective 2.6: Develop areas of excellence.
Objective 2.7: Maintain state and national accreditations.
Objective 2.8: Attain recognition through faculty teaching, scholarship and service.
Objective 2.9: Provide appropriate levels of support for teaching, scholarship and service activities.
Goal 3 - Human Resources: Maintain a quality work force and work environment.
Objective 3.1: Hire excellent and diverse faculty and staff members.
Objective 3.2: Reduce faculty/staff turnover.
Objective 3.3: Implement a Differentiated Staffing Plan for Faculty.
Objective 3.4: Provide suitable space for all employees.
Objective 3.5: Achieve salary parity for faculty and staff.
Objective 3.6: Provide continuing learning for all college employees.
Objective 3.7: Improve communication within and among constituent groups.
Objective 3.8 Provide appropriate support for college personnel.
Goal 4 - Partnerships and Engagement: Build strategic partnerships, alliances and community outreach.
Objective 4.1: Implement new partnerships and extend existing alliances with the EC-12 education community.
Objective 4.2: Implement new partnerships and extend existing alliances with community colleges/post?]secondary education institutions.
Objective 4.3: Foster relationships with business and government entities.
Objective 4.4: Initiate community outreach and community relations programs.
Objective 4.5: Maximize the effective use of College of Education Development Council.
Objective 4.6: Develop grant opportunities with area partners.
Goal 5 - Recognition: Develop a positive image based on the College of Education’s activities and achievements.
Objective 5.1: Use publications and web sites to promote a positive image.
Objective 5.2: Use community collaborations and community participation to promote a positive image. (Greatly overlaps with Goal 4, Partnerships and Engagements.)
Objective 5.3: Promote a positive image through activities that recognize college, university and community personnel.
Goal 6 - Technology: Maximize the appropriate use of technology in the delivery of COE programs and services.
Objective 6.1: Increase support for technology.
Objective 6.2: Use advanced technology to improve the teaching and learning process in the COE.
Objective 6.3: Implement professional development opportunities for technology in the COE.
Objective 6.4: Use technology for student support and program administration.
Objective 6.5: Prepare graduates with the knowledge and skills to appropriately use technology in their professional and personal lives.
Goal 7 - Organizational Structure and Accountability: Strengthen mechanisms inside the college to conduct academic, student and administrative affairs more effectively.
Objective 7.1: Restructure the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
Objective 7.2: Improve COE policies and procedures.
Objective 7.3: Utilize existing financial resources effectively.
Objective 7.4: Maintain and develop an effective administrative

Goal 1. Access and Diversity
Recruit, retain and graduate a larger, more academically prepared, and diverse student body. |
Standard 4: Diversity
The unit designs, implements, and evaluates curriculum and experiences for candidates to acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students learn. These experiences include working with diverse higher education and school faculty, diverse candidates, and diverse students in P-12 schools. |
Goal 2. Academic Excellence
Attain national recognition as a top public educational educationand research university. |
Standard 1: Candidate Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions
Candidates preparing to work in schools as teachers or other professional school personnel know and demonstrate the content, pedagogical, and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students learn. Assessments indicate that candidates meet professional, state, and institutional standards. |

Standard 5: Faculty Qualifications, Performance, and Development
Faculty are qualified and model best professional practices in scholarship, service, and teaching, including the assessment of their own effectiveness as related to candidate performance; they also collaborate with colleagues in the disciplines and schools. The unit systematically evaluates faculty performance and facilitates professional development. |
Goal 4. Engagement and Partnerships
Build strategic partnerships, alliances and community outreach. |
Standard 3: Field Experiences and Clinical Practice
The unit and its school partners design, implement, and evaluate field experiences and clinical practice so that teacher candidates and other school personnel develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students learn. |

Strengthen mechanisms inside the college in order to conduct academic, student and administrative affairs matters effectively. |
Standard 2: Assessment System and Unit Evaluation
The unit has an assessment system that collects and analyzes data on applicant qualifications, candidate and graduate performance, and unit operations to evaluate and improve the unit and its programs.
Standard 6: Unit Governance and Resources
The unit has the leadership, authority, budget, personnel, facilities, and resources including information technology resources, for the preparation of candidates to meet professional, state, and institutional standards. |
