How To Upload a Powerpoint Presentation to WebCT

 

  1. Open the Powerpoint file
    1. File
    2. Save As Web Page – make sure that the name of the file does not have spaces or special characters such as $ % # @ etc.  This procedure creates an .htm file and also a directory of the same name that contains all the graphics and content of the powerpoint. 
    3. Close file
  2. Open My Computer and locate newly created .htm file. 
    1. Highlight (do not open) both the .htm file and the directory of the same name.  To do this, hold down the Ctrl key and click once on these two items.
    2. Right Click
    3. Choose “Add to Zip”

                                                               i.      Add name of file to end of path, but do not change anything else in the path name. 

    1. Click “Add” Button.  This creates a zip file that you will upload to WebCT.
    2. Close WinZip
  1. Open WebCT
    1. Choose Manage Files on the left navigation bar
    2. Under File Options

                                                               i.      Click “Upload a file” and press “Go”

                                                             ii.      Click “Browse” button

                                                            iii.      Locate the zip file you just created on your harddrive.  Highlight it and click “Open” button

                                                           iv.      Open the selection menu by clicking on the little down arrow to select the location of where you are going to upload this file. 

                                                             v.      Click “Upload” button.  This could take a minute. This returns you to File Options.

                                                           vi.      Locate the zip file you just uploaded.  Put a check next to the file by clicking in the box next to the name.

                                                          vii.      In the menu box under File Options at the top of the page, choose “Unzip” and press “Go”.

                                                        viii.      On the next page, open the selection menu and choose where you want the file to go.  example edse 4310/Powerpoint 

                                                           ix.      Click on the “Unzip” button.  When this finished you will be returned to Manage Files.

    1. Go to the page in the content of your course where you want the new page to reside.  i.e. Course Content > Past Presentations.

                                                               i.      Click the button next to Designer View at the top of the page

                                                             ii.      Go to the bottom of the page and select “Add Page or Tool”.

                                                            iii.      Select “Single Page” next to Pages/URLs

                                                           iv.      Click the “Add” button a the top of the page

1.      Choose a title that you want students to see

2.      Hit the “Browse” button.  Find the .htm file that corresponds to the powerpoint you just uploaded and click the radio button next to it.  Click the “Pick” button at the top of the page

3.      Click next to “On an Organizer Page” (it automatically fills in where according to where you were when you started this process).  When you click this it also fills in the appropriate choices for how the link will appear.

4.      Press the “Add” button to add this page or URL to your course.

                                                             v.      Select Return to Presentations to view new page.  Sometimes this sticks in Design View even though it has View chosen.  Toggle the buttons and it should return to View.  Check that it works properly.
