Basic Training for Lecture Hall 001
What resources are available to me in the Lecture
Hall?
- Built-in speaker microphone on the podium
- Windows-based Computer (permenantly
installed at front of Lecture Hall with wide variety of software including
MS PowerPoint
and
access
to
the
Internet)
containing a floppy drive, a Zip drive, and a CD-ROM drive.
- A built-in VCR/DVD
- A Document camera (Elmo)
- Lapel Microphone (locked in the back, must be checked
out by prior arrangement from the LRC)
- Hearing Assistance Headphones (there are six headphone
sets)
- Input connections for speaker's personal Laptop (video, audio, and internet)
Please DO NOT unplug anything connected to the center floor box in front of
the podium!

Tips and Hints for a successful presentation.
- If your presentation is on the weekend, call Kay Dowdy at 742-1484 the week
before your presentation to request that the Air Conditioning/Heating be turned
on.
- Request the key from Jan Ward in the Learning Resource
Center (LRC) at 742-2394 or 742-1997 ext. 234, for the sound booth
if you need access to the Hearing Assistance
Headphones or Lapel Microphones.
How do I turn on the Projector for my presentation?
Located in the lecturn is the AMX Touch Panel (right) used
to control the Audio/Video System. (If the system has "gone to
sleep" the screen will be black -- touch the screen to wake it
up.)
- When you see the screen on the right, touch
the screen to enter.
- You will see a password keypad. The password
is 2002 and Enter.

The next screen is the Main Screen of the AMX Touch Panel. From here
you can do the following:
- Source Selection
- Projector Control
- Program Volume
- Microphone Volume
- System Shut Down

To turn on the projector and choose the "source" of the presentation:
- Press the "ON" button in the green box marked Projector Control.
(The projector takes a little time to warm up, but if you don't see anything
on the screen in several minutes press the Projector Control "OFF" button
and then press "ON" again.)
- If you wish to use the Computer, (which are currently connected
at the Center Floor Box) choose the source you wish to use by pressing the
COMPUTER button for that source under the Center Floor Box heading. You should
see that source projected on the screen at this time. If not, try selecting
another source and then re-selecting your required source -- do this until
your source is being projected on the screen.
- If you wish to use the DVD/VCR (located in the podium) press the "DVD/VCR
Input" button at the top of the screen under CENTER FLOOR BOX Source
Selection. Control the DVD/VCR manually by pressing buttons on the unit in
the podium. DVD controls are on the left, VCR controls are on the right.
- If you wish to use the Document Camera (located on a cart on the
right side of the lecturn), press "Document Camera" under CENTER
FLOOR BOX Source Selection. Press the "Power" button on the Document
Camera. You should see that source projected on the screen at this time.
- Adjust the volume for program materials such as DVD/VCR, Computer
Audio, etc. by pressing "UP", "DOWN", or "MUTE" under
Program Volume. Test this volume control before your presentation begins. Make
sure you test the volume level BEFORE your presentation begins.
- Adjust the volume for microphone (either lapel or hand-held) by
pressing "UP", "DOWN", or "MUTE" under Microphone
Volume. Test this volume control before your presentation begins. Make

How do I use the Lecture Hall Computer for a PowerPoint
Presentation?
- Turn on the computer located in the podium below the DVD/VCR. You have
to open the lower podium doors to turn on the computer.
- The computer monitor is mounted in the podium on the RIGHT side. Wait till
the computer starts up and logs in, when you see the START menu, desktop
icons, and the cursor looks normal, startup is complete.
- The floppy disk drive and CD drive are located IN the computer. The zip
drive is an external drive located under the monitor next to the mouse. Insert
disk/CD containing your PowerPoint Presentation. If using a floppy, load
your presentation onto the desktop for optimum speed.
- Double-click the filename to start the presentation.

How do I use my own laptop computer for a PowerPoint
Presentation?
- The standard 15 pin VGA computer plug and audio plug are located at the
top of the podium, by the light.
- Place your laptop on top of the podium.
- Plug the video and audio plugs into your laptop.
- Plug your laptop (if needed) into the electrical wall outlet behind the
podium.
- Locate the video switch box / Keyboard-Video-Mouse switch (located in the
podium to the right of the computer.)
- Press LP to use your laptop
- Press PC to switch back to the built-in computer
What if I want to access the Internet during my
presentation?
- Turn on the computer located in the podium.
- Open Internet Explorer, click on the address bar
at the top of the screen.
- Type in the URL address of the site you wish to access.
- See "How do I turn on the Projector for my presentation?" for
detailed projector instructions.
- Laptop Internet Access: If internet access is needed for
a connected laptop, plug the internet patch cable (blue) located at the top
of the podum into your laptop. Plug the other end into the internet wall
outlet behind the podium. You will need to unplug the built-in computer's
internet cable. Please plug this back in when finished with your presentation.
What do I do when my presentation is over?
- Turn off the projector by pressing the "OFF" button (twice) under
Projector Control.
- Turn off the Document Camera if you used this source.
- Press MUTE on the Microphone Volume and Program Volume.
- If a laptop was used, place all cables back under the podium top (by the
light) and plug the built-in computer internet cable back in. Make
sure the video switch box is set to PC.
- Press the "EXIT" button at the bottom right corner of the AMX
Touch Panel to shut down the system. (This takes you back to the "off
mode" screen.)
