Export
your finished iMovie for web streaming.
- In iMovie 3, from the FILE menu choose EXPORT.
- Select TO QUICKTIME.
- As a FORMAT select WEB STREAMING.
- Choose as your file saving location the same folder where you saved
your original iMovie Project.
- Name your file with the following conventions:
- All lowercase letters and numbers, without spaces or special characters.
- Your last name, followed by an underscore,
the number of this iMovie, followed by an underscore, and the
date. End the file name with the extension ".mov".
- Example: smith_1_23may04.mov
Mount
the streaming server shared folder
- Hide or quit all open programs (iMovie, Internet
Explorer, etc.)
- From the GO menu (in the Finder) choose CONNECT TO SERVER.
- Enter the following and then click connect: 129.118.141.10/capstone04s
- Enter the userid and password (Ask the project student
assistant for these credentials if you do not have them.)
- You will be prompted with the message, The
folder "capstone04s" could not be opened because you do not have
sufficient access priveleges.
This is normal! Click OK to clear the message. (The reason is that
as a student, you have rights to add new iMovie files into this server
folder, but not view or delete files already copied into it.)
Copy
your exported iMovie to the server
- Open the local computer hard drive and navigate to the folder containing
your exported iMovie.
- Move the open window so you can still see the "drop-box" icon on
the desktop titled "capstone04s".
- Drag your exported iMovie file and drop
it on the "capstone04s" desktop icon.
- Wait for your file to copy to the server. (This should take less than
30 seconds)
- After the file transfer dialog window closes,
unmount the server folder by either dragging it to the trashcan (right
side of the dock at the bottom of the screen) or control-clicking it
and choosing DISCONNECT.
Configure
and save a QuickTime streaming media pointer file
- Save the following file to your local computer
hard drive: sample_movie.mov (Right
click or control-click and choose SAVE FILE AS / SAVE TARGET AS)
- Open this file on a Macintosh or Windows computer
with a text editor. (Mac: look in Applications - Text Edit, Windows:
look in Programs - Accessories - Notepad) You may have to select "Show
files of type: ALL FILES".
- This file is actually a text file (although it has
the extension .mov) with the following line of text: rtsptext rtsp://129.118.141.10/capstone04s/schoolilove_web.mov
- Change the last file name (schoolilove_web.mov)
in this line to the name of your exported iMovie.
- Save the file.
Insert
the movie "pointer file" on a webpage
- Save the file you created in step 4 above into
your ePortfolio / eRaider website.
- Insert the movie into a webpage:
- FRONTPAGE 2002: Choose INSERT -
WEB COMPONENT - ADVANCED CONTROLS - PLUG IN. (See
this website for more help.)
- DREAMWEAVER MX: Choose INSERT - MEDIA - PLUGIN.
- Select the iMovie media pointer file and configure
other options, including a redirect URL (for the QuickTime download
if people don't have it already installed) and the default height and
width of your movie. In Frontpage these settings will look like this
(with your filename instead of sample_movie.mov):

- A sample webpage (created with Frontpage 2002) is
available on http://webpages.acs.ttu.edu/wfryer/sample_movie.html.
Provide
the login credentials to those you want to share the movie with
- To protect the privacy of those videotaped in
your movie, login credentials are required to view movies saved in
this server folder.
- Ask the project student assistant for these
credentials (which are different from the one used in step #2 above)
if you do not have them.
- Please DO NOT post this userid/password information
on your website! Email them to prospective employers or others you want
to allow to view your video.
