These instructions are provided computer users whose web browsers (either Netscape or Internet Explorer) are not working correctly, displaying webpages on College of Education websites or elsewhere.
The webpages you are trying to view may use advanced features that are not supported by older browsers. Try downloading a newer version of Internet Explorer and Netscape, then try to view the desired page again.

Visit Microsoft's website for Mac usersand click the MACBINARY link beside ENGLISH to download Internet Explorer version 5 for Macintosh. If you are using WebCT chat for an online course, IE 5 is the only web browser that will work. Use Internet Explorer 5 instead of Netscape for WebCT chat. |
Visit Microsoft's website for Windows users to download Internet Explorer version 6 for Windows. In the upper right corner, under DOWNLOAD click INTERNET EXPLORER 6. |

Netscape version 4.78 is recommended and supported by computing servies at Texas Tech. Version 6 has some problems that are not all worked out yet. |

These downloads are large and will take awhile on dialup (56K modem) connections. Alternatively, consider asking your internet service provider (ISP-- who you buy internet access from) to provide you with a CD containing these updated browsr programs. They are free, and the CD should be provided to you free as well.
Some websites require that optional "javascript' and "Java" features be turned on to properly display content. The link below provides instructions for enabling these settings on various web browsers, on various platforms:
The 'cache' is the folder on your computer that holds temporary copies of webpages you have viewed. Sometimes your computer continues to use older, outdated versions of a webpage instead of loading the newest version.
If clicking RELOAD / REFRESH on the toolbar does not update the page correctly, try the techniques described on the link below for "Setting the cache to always reload a page and clearing your History and Cache / Temporary Internet Files"
