Bret Hendricks

Bret Hendricks currently serves as an Associate Professor of Counselor Education in the College of Education at Texas Tech University. He has a B.S. in Family Studies and Human Development with a minor in Substance Abuse Studies, a Master’s Degree in Counseling and a Doctorate in Counselor Education. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. His major areas of research include adolescent studies, at-risk adolescents, substance abuse treatment, and the use of music therapy techniques in counseling. Prior to his employment at Texas Tech, Dr. Hendricks served as the Clinical Coordinator for Children and Adolescent Programs at the Lubbock Regional Mental Health Mental Retardation Center.


Dr. Hendricks has published research articles in national and international journals, and is a frequent speaker at regional, national and international conferences. His speaking experience has included the American Counseling Association, The British Counseling Association, two universities in England, and numerous national, state and regional conferences.

Dr. Hendricks currently serves as President of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, on the Board of Directors for the Texas Counseling Association and the West Texas Counseling Association. He has been named Family Counselor of the Year by the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors.
