Dr. Aretha Marbley

Dr. Aretha Marbley is an activist scholar with a research focus in domestic and global multicultural discourse on issues of community social justice, gender social justice, invisibility and silence, marginality, inequities, cultural competencies, multicultural ethics, and the voices of women and people of color in education, mental health and criminal justice. She is currently Associate Professor and Director of Community Counseling in Counselor Education at Texas Tech University, Chair of the American Counseling Association Women Interest Network, Regional Six Director of and Past President of Texas Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education, and a member of a multidisciplinary team investigating the exposure to and transmission of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in Vietnam. She received a PhD from the University of Arkansas and is a licensed professional counselor, board approved supervisor, and national certified counselor. She is the 2007 recipient of the Texas Tech Office of the President's Excellence in Diversity and Equity Faculty Award and the national Carl A. Grant Multicultural Research Award. She publishes extensively, serves on committees, provides professional development, and presents papers nationally and internationally in the area of diversity and multiculturalism.
