Often times the stress is no different at school than in the home.  Teachers feel the added stress of working trial and error with many students diagnosed with autism.  Often teachers have not been trained in the characteristics and techniques of the autistic spectrum.  Teachers comment on the positive relationships formed with parents and how parental experience and insight often makes the classroom a positive learning environment.

As with many students with disabilities, many educators, administrators, and students in the school do not understand the nuances of the disability.  Therefore, they allow their ignorance to become fear.  This fear often isolates not only the teacher working with the student with autism, but more importantly the student as well.

New curriculum models and training have recently begun to be introduced within school districts and at institutions of higher education.  Hopefully, these advances will enable success for both the student and the teacher.
