Margaret Price

short biography

Margaret Price received her B.S. in Secondary Education from Texas A&M University in 1974 and her M.A. in History in 1977 from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. She taught public school in 6 different school districts in Texas for a total of 18 years service. In 1994 she returned to Texas A&M to pursue her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. While at Texas A&M she was in instructor for the C&I department, teaching 4 different classes. She received her Doctorate in August 1998, winning the outstanding dissertation award from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. She is currently in her 9th year at Texas Tech University, where she has served as program coordinator for the Secondary Education Program, chair of Faculty Council, a member of the Leadership Council, the Annual Review Committee, and advisor for the Student Education Association. Since coming to Texas Tech she has worked tirelessly to establish the Professional Development School model within secondary schools in the Lubbock Independent School district. There are currently two official high school partnerships running in LISD and field based classes in every upper-level certification classes in the Teacher Certification Program. In Project REAL (Recruiting Educators through Alternative Licensure) she and four university professors administer a post-baccalaureate secondary certification program in our partner schools. Project REAL is a Transition to Teaching grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education. She is an active member of the Holmes Partnership, the National Association of Professional Development Schools, Texas Council for the Social Studies and the American Educational Research Association.
