Bobbi Pratt
Biography
Bobbi Pratt has been a full time instructor in the College of Education since the fall of 1999. She received approval for her continuing contract in the spring of 2004. She holds a Master of Elementary Education degree from Texas Tech University. Her bachelor degree, also from Texas Tech, is in Elementary Education with a specialization in Special Education. She is certified in the state of Texas to teach general education in grades 1 through 8 and all levels of special education. She has taught in several surrounding districts (Lubbock area) and in Plano ISD (Dallas area). She has experience teaching 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grades as well as elementary resource (special education support classroom) and lifeskills (for mildly mentally disabled children). Throughout her years of teaching, Ms. Pratt developed a particular interest in the acquisition of literacy and has found this to be her true passion. She enjoys spreading the joy of learning to read and write to those who will soon affect the lives of young children! Besides teaching her course load, Ms. Pratt devotes time to helping pre-service teachers prepare for the TExES exam. She has also worked for the Region 17 Service Center as a TXBESS facilitator (first year teacher support system). In addition, Ms. Pratt worked for Susan Erbe Inc. as a Wright Group McGraw-Hill representative and presenter. She has presented literacy workshops at various conferences in Albuquerque, Hobbs, Amarillo, Lubbock and Midland. She has also provided staff development for several districts in New Mexico and Texas. In 1997, as part of her graduate requirements, she presented at the regional and national level conferences of the National Council for Teachers of Math and the National Science Teachers Association. Of course, her presentation was titled: integrating literacy into your math and science curriculum. After all, she believes reading is the foundation of all education. Ms. Pratt’s ultimate goal as an instructor is to guide the soon-to-be teacher to know what to do when those twenty eager sets of eyes stare into his/her eyes - ready to go, begging to learn.
