About the Program:

Educational Leadership (EDLD) is an academic program in the Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership.  The Educational Leadership Master’s Degree (M.Ed.) and Principal Certification Program focuses on preparation of entry-level school administrators.   The Doctoral Degree (Ed.D) and Superintendent Certification programs prepare and develop key leaders for school districts and college or university faculty.  All programs focus on preparing organizational change leaders who can cultivate democratic learning communities that value social justice and equity.

STANDARDS:

Program work within Educational Leadership is developed and guided by a strong conceptual framework, the standards from the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), guidelines from the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC), criteria from the State of Texas, and the sound professional judgment of an experienced and caring faculty.

DEGREE AND CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS OF STUDY :

There are three major options for work within the Educational Leadership Program. The Master’s Degree and Principal Certification Program requires 45 semester hours of graduate study. Principal candidates complete a masters degree (36 semester credit hours) and complete the Principal Certificate with an additional 9 hours of electives.

The Superintendent Certification Program requires:

All three of the above programs are described in detail in a variety of online handbooks and documents that are accessed through the links found on this homepage.

Educational Leadership candidates come from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds.  Many program participants have either worked at, or are currently employed by, a school district, college, or university.  To accommodate the needs of these working professionals, the Educational Leadership Program routinely offers a variety of evening, Saturday, and summer courses.  Some of these courses utilize distance education delivery systems.
