Juan Munoz

Short Biography

In Fall 2004, Dr. Juan Sanchez Munoz was appointed in the College of Education as an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. He is also the Director of the College of Education, Center for Research on Leadership and Education and Program Coordinator for Bilingual Education and Diversity Studies. In addition to his faculty appointment, he serves as a Special Assistant to the President for Institutional Diversity, Associate Vice Provost Faculty Affairs and is the founding Director of the TTU Cross-Cultural Academic Advancement Center. Prior to joining Texas Tech, Dr. Munoz was a faculty member in the Department of Secondary Education at California State University Fullerton.

Personal interest

Dr. Munoz has taught courses in classroom management, instructional methods and curriculum development, multicultural education, bilingual education, and critical theory. His research is focused on instructional issues related to equity studies, inclusiveness in higher education and the learning needs of ethnically and linguistically diverse students within public education. His academic work has appeared in scholarly journals, books, encyclopedias and national conferences

Dr. Munoz is currently the President for the Board of Directors of the Lubbock Boys & Girls Club, Vice President for the Board of the South Plains Boys Scouts, board member for Covenant Medical Health System, advisory board member for American State Bank, board member of the Texas Diversity Council, Director in the Texas Lyceum, a former Commissioner for the City of Lubbock Housing Authority, and was recently appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve on the board of directors for the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.
