Steps to Enrollment
At South Plains
- Enroll in the South Plains college's AAT Program (Associate of Arts in Teaching);
- Plan to transfer to Texas Tech to seek teacher certification;
- Complete a minimum of 60, but not more than 66 student credit hours, at South Plains College, including:
- A core curriculum of 42-45 hours
- 12 hours of science
- 6 hours of math in addition to the math in the core curriculum
- 6 credit hours of courses, field-based, in local schools;
- Participate in transition activities and events provided by the Texas Tech College of Education
- Work closely with TTU advisors and the College of Education's Outreach Specialist who will provide you with information to help make your transfer successful by facilitation your working with the financial aid and admissions offices and obtaining a correct schedule of classes, etc.;
- Apply for admission to Texas Tech (STEP2 will reimburse application fees);
- Apply to the teacher education program at www.educ.ttu.edu/certification
At Texas Tech University
- Transfer to the College of Education and become certified to teach through Texas Tech University
- Seek initial Texas teacher certification in the following areas:
- EC-6 (an EC-6 generalist with specialization in Bilingual Education, English as a Second Language, or Special Education)
- Middle School (grades 4-8) English/Language Arts/Reading, English/Language Arts/Reading/Social Studies, or Math/Science.
