Faculty in the College of Education at Texas Tech have been leaders for many years in offering courses to students utilizing a wide variety of innovative, technology enhanced modalities. Both the COE Director of Distance Learning and Faculty Support Office staff are available to assist COE faculty wanting to supplement face-to-face course delivery with distance learning software tools (including WebCT) or help faculty learn to utilize our iTV equipment.
The following procedures and coordinations are required for faculty wanting to offer a course via iTV that has previously been taught face-to-face. TTU OP 36.01: Adding, Changing, and Deleting Courses and Changing Method of Delivery addresses some of these requirements.
An Application for Distance Learning Course Approval form must be completed and submitted to the Provost's Office.
A Principles of Good Practice/Copyright Compliance form must be completed and submitted to the Provost's Office.
The department secretary needs to create the appropriate iTV sections in TechSIS for the planned delivery location(s).
The Director of Distance Learning needs to add the iTV course to the COE website database of DE courses.
The Director of Distance Learning needs to add the iTV course to the University DE portal (www.de.ttu.edu).
Students wanting to take the class via iTV must submit iTV Remote Delivery Request forms by the published deadline for the term the class will be offered. (Further explanation of these deadlines and procedures is available.)
The Director of Distance Learning, in consultation with the college administrators and faculty iTV instructors, assigns available COE iTV rooms to offered classes for each term. (Other University iTV rooms may also be used depending on availability.)
The Director of Distance Learning needs to schedule requested iTV class connections with the TTU Video Services department. These include details about requested remote iTV delivery sites.
The Director of Distance Learning will notify students requesting remote iTV connections about the status of their request by published deadlines.
The instructor for the course needs to schedule iTV orientation and training (in the iTV room assigned for the term) with the Director of Distance Learning prior to the start of classes.
The instructor for the course needs to coordinate other instructional support requirements with COE Faculty Support staff. This should be done at least 4 weeks prior to the start of class. These requirements can include WebCT course creation, training in the use of WebCT, posting handouts in PDF format online, creating course CDs for student use, etc.
Please direct questions about these requirements to the the COE Director of Distance Learning.
