Distance Learning Course Registration Help
(Updated for Spring 2005)

When registering for a distance course offered by our college, it is VERY important to register for the correct section. Assessed fees are based on the section in which students are enrolled. In Spring 2004, a new set of section codes are being used. Enroll in the correct section, based on your geographic location when attending class. Special instruction fees vary depending on the enrolled section:

Students wanting to attend an offered iTV class at a non-TTU iTV site (like a high school iTV room in an ISD or an Education Service Center) must submit a request form by the published deadline. Separate section codes are now required by the University for each site to which an iTV course is delivered.

Course listings for current offerings are available online. Check the university academic calendar for deadlines for advance student registration on the TechSIS for Students website. If you cannot register in the correct section because TechSIS indicates it is full, please contact Kerry Bartel.

Students taking ALL their courses in a term at a distance may be eligble for the waiver of some fees. In past semesters, these had to be submitted for each student by the instructor. Now, the instructor waiver request on behalf of all eligible students in their section. These forms must be received by the Office of Graduate Education and Research in the College of Education by the 10th day of classes. If you have questions about your eligibility for fee waivers, please contact your instructor.

Other Distance Course Information:

Since October 15, 2002, all our distance courses and programs have been listed on the TTU Distance Education portal: www.de.ttu.edu. Our submitted listings are then entered by university staff into the state distance education portal: www.TexasDistanceEducation.com.

  • Prerequisite information for individual courses is included in our searchable course descriptions database.
  • Enrollment Information: See the program handbook for program and Graduate School admission procedures. (http://www.educ.ttu.edu/docs) Once admitted, students can register online at http://techsis.admin.ttu.edu/student.
  • Enrollment procedures for Masters and Doctoral students are detailed in the respective program handbooks, available on www.educ.ttu.edu/docs/handbooks.htm.
  • Web-based course attendance issues: Generally, most coursework is completed asynchronously, however some sychronous activities may be required by the instructor.
  • iTV-based course attendance issues: Attendance at all face-to-face iTV instructional sessions is expected.
  • Other information: Note that most programs are NOT completely available at a distance. Offering a particular course at a distance does NOT represent a commitment on the part of our faculty or institution to offer a program fully to students at a distance. Information about degree and certification programs at a distance is available. Fee waivers may be available for students depending on geographic location and other factors. Both in-state and out of state tuition and fees may vary significantly for students taking more than a single class in a term. Fees may also vary depending on a student's iTV site location and section code. If residing in a county adjacent to Texas in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana, in-state tuition rates apply. More information about fee waivers is available. Students enrolled in a degree program NOT approved for distance delivery are limited to taking up to 50% of required coursework (if available) at a distance, but may not exceed that percentage per Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board regulations.
