DeAnn Lechtenberger, Ph.D.

short biography

DeAnn Lechtenberger is an Assistant Professor in the program area of Special Education. She holds an M.S. degree in Special Education from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Ph.D. in Special Education Leadership from the University of North Texas. She joined the faculty in 2003 and is the Principle Investigator and Program Director for Project IDEAL: Informing and Designing Education for All Learners, a grant program funded by the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities.

professional interests

Dr. Lechtenberger's primary research interest involves human services reform efforts to support individuals with disabilities, specifically Systems of Care and Mental Health Care Transformation in America. Dr. Lechtenberger's work involves collaborating with community leaders, family members of individuals with disabilities, individuals with disabilities, and human services (i.e., mental health, schools, juvenile justice, child protective services) to enhance the ability of communities to become more inclusive of diverse individuals with a wide range of abilities. Dr. Lechtenberger's research also focuses on teacher education issues surrounding inclusive practices in schools, strengthening family-school-community partnerships, positive behavior supports in schools and communities, and transition to adulthood for individuals with developmental disabilities.
