Checklist for Developing Behavioral Intervention

Fouse & Wheeler, 1997

Instructions: when developing behavioral intervention plans, use a X to indicate the completion of each step
1. Identify the behavior to change
2. Complete a functional analysis of the behavior
3. Complete a reinforcer assessment
4. Measure the frequency, intensity, and/or duration of the behavior
5. Develop effective communication strategies
6. Develop strategies for meeting sensory needs
7. Identify appropriate social skills to teach
8. Develop antecedent control strategies
9. Develop self-regulation strategies
10. Develop strategies for teaching new behaviors
11. Develop strategies for reinforcing desired behaviors
12. Outline negative reinforcers for unacceptable behaviors, if needed
13. Develop a crisis plan if needed
14. Determine procedures for measuring progress
15. Review progress on a regular basis
16. If progress is satisfactory, continue using the intervention program
17. If progress is unsatisfactory, refer to the checklist titled” Guidelines for Troubleshooting Unsatisfactory progress?”
18. Develop procedure for generalization training
19. Fade reinforcers
20. Take care of yourself! Use coping and stress management strategies behavior is related to specific antecedents and consequences in the immediate environment.
