Medications Commonly Prescribed

The Burkhart Center's directors and staff believe that implementing medications alone is not the solution to treating children with autism; they need a well-designed individualized intervention to increase the chances of normal functioning.
Some of the following medications are used with individuals on the autism spectrum: Antipsychotics, Anticonvulsants, Anti-anxiety, Antidepression/Antimania, Beta Blockers, opiate Blockers, Sedatives, Stimulants, Secretin, IVIG Therapy.
Please note that some within the Autistic Community (personal interviews, March - July, 2005) have strong objections to some of the medications used.
