Strategies for all Challenging Behaviors in General
Purpose is to increase and decrease
Fouse & Wheeler, 1997
Increasing Desired Behaviors
-
Using intervention strategies that will increase desired behaviors is essential to developing positive outcomes.
-
When planning strategies for increasing desire behaviors, it is important to consider the long-term implications of any proposed changes on the whole person. The primary focus is implementation of strategies to positive influence quality of life over time.
Decreasing Unwanted Behaviors
-
When responding to inappropriate behaviors using punishment or negative consequences, it is critical to include positive reinforcement for acceptable behaviors as part of the intervention plan. Punishment or negative consequence alone will not improve behaviors.
