Question: What are the minimum computer requirements for your distance learning web-based courses?

Powerbook G4Answer: We don't have a hard and fast computer requirement for taking our courses, because activities vary by course and program. Basically you need:

  1. A computer with a CD-ROM drive
  2. Capability to access the internet (dialup/56K modem or high speed: cable/DSL)
  3. Basic software: Web browser, word processing, presentation software. As a TTU student you can download needed software from the eRaider website: www.eraider.ttu.edu

If you are buying a new computer, we recommend using the educational solutions offered by our High Tech campus computing store: www.htcs.ttu.edu/onlineordering.asp

As a minimum one of the following configurations are recommended:

Windows

Windows 98 or higher (Windows XP recommended)
Pentium II 450 processor or equivalent (Pentium III/4 processor recommended)
64 MB or more of RAM (256 recommended)

Linux

Pentium II 450 processor or equivalent (Pentium III/4 processor recommended)
64 MB or more of RAM (256 recommended)

Macintosh

400Mhz G3 or faster (G4 or G5 recommended)
Mac OS 8.6 or later (OS X recommended)
64 MB or more of RAM (256 recommended)

These are just suggestions, not firm rules.

Answer: We have two Masters of Education degrees and several national and state-level certifications in Special Education available at a distance. A full listing of all TTU degrees and certifications offered at a distance is available on our University distance education portal: www.de.ttu.edu.

Answer: After being accepted by the TTU Graduate school, graduate students can enroll online using TechSIS for Students: http://techsis.admin.ttu.edu/student/ (Need help with your PIN number?)

Question: Does your college offer a doctorate at a distance?

Answer: No, not at the present time.

Our college offers doctoral degrees in 12 areas, but none are "offered at a distance" yet.* A Doctorate in Agricultural Education is available, however, which is a joint program between TTU and Texas A&M. (This is not offered by our college.)

* To be considered a degree program "at a distance" according to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, 50% or more of required coursework must be available at a distance.

Question: Does your college offer courses for high school students?

Answer: No, but Texas Tech ISD (part of TTU Extended Studies) does.
