About BECA

BECA:

Texas Tech University, the Lubbock, I.S.D., and the Education Service Center #17 collaboratively propose a Title VII sponsored Training for all Teachers grant entitled the Bilingual Education for the Content Areas (BECA) for the purpose of:

a. training 300 pre-service or in-service content area teachers in Bilingual or ESL methodologies, strategies, family involvement techniques, and philosophy through university course credit via public school campus based instruction (professional development schools),

 

b. providing staff development for content area teachers, bilingual/ESL teachers, teacher aides, counselors, administrators, and other educational personnel who directly affect the education of limited English proficient students, and

 

c. establishing and enriching a Bilingual Education Resource Center (BERC) in the College of Education at Texas Tech.          

                  

 

 

BECA participants' tuition and fees will be paid directly by the University's Grants and Contracts Office. Students must maintain a 2.50 GPA or better to continue participation in the project.            

 

 

 

General Requirements:

All applicants will meet the requirements set forth by Texas Tech University and the State of Texas State Certification Board (SBEC). All applicants will be considered for program participation regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or handicapping condition.

 

As part of the requirements, your tuition is not only paid for, but you have the opportunity to attend additional informational meetings as well. All BECA participants must join TTU BESO. Dues are $20.00 ($10.00, local; $10.00, Texas Association for Bilingual Education). All BECA participants must attend a minimum of two of these meetings (one per semester). There will be opportunities to receive additional staff development related to Bilingual/ESL Education.

 

Applications for the Summer 2002 grant are now being accepted.  Pick up an application in AD/ED room 318.
